• They first met on the set of Soodhu Kavvum (2013) because director Nalan Kumarasamy specifically wanted two relatively unknown actors who could look like real-life small-time crooks. Neither was a star yet — the film put both of them on the map.
• In Jigarthanda (2014), Sethupathi played a ruthless gangster and Simha played a wannabe filmmaker. The tension between them wasn't just scripted — Simha later said he was genuinely intimidated by Sethupathi's improvisations during their face-off scenes, which forced him to stay on edge and made the fear in his performance real.
• Their pairing in Jigarthanda directly inspired the 2021 Hindi film Mahaan — which was originally written as a Tamil film with both of them in lead roles. When that fell through, the script was reworked into a Hindi project starring Vikram and Dhruv Vikram.
• During the shoot of Iraivi (2016), Sethupathi and Simha shared a room in a budget lodge in Madurai for weeks. They'd rehearse their scenes at night by taking turns playing each other's roles — Sethupathi would act out Simha's part and vice versa, just to find new angles.
• Bobby Simha once said in an interview: 'Vijay Sethupathi is the only actor who can make me forget my lines. I'd be mid-dialogue and he'd do something unexpected, and I'd just freeze — but that freeze became part of the scene.'
• In Petta (2019), they played father and son — but their only scene together was a brutal fight. Rajinikanth was the star, but the emotional core of that sequence depended on Sethupathi and Simha selling a broken relationship without any dialogue. They shot it in one take because both refused to break character.
