• They were thrown together because both were on a hot streak in the late 80s — Poonam was coming off 'Sohni Mahiwal' and Kimi had just done 'Meri Aawaz Suno'. The producers of 'Mard Ki Zabaan' (1987) wanted two bankable leading ladies to prop up a fading Rajesh Khanna, so they paired them without any screen test.
• In 'Sone Pe Suhaaga' (1988), Poonam played the demure, suffering wife while Kimi was the loud, street-smart friend. The director later said Kimi’s manic energy forced Poonam to underplay her scenes — which actually made Poonam’s quiet moments land harder.
• During the shoot of 'Abhimanyu' (1989), Kimi would sneak Poonam homemade chakli from her Maharashtrian cook. Poonam later admitted in a 2018 interview that Kimi was the only co-star who ever fed her on set.
• Kimi once told a trade magazine: 'Poonam and I never competed. She’d say, 'You do the comedy, I’ll cry.' And I’d say, 'Fine, but you better cry pretty.'
• Their double-heroine formula in 'Mard Ki Zabaan' directly inspired the casting of two female leads in the 1990 Govinda-David Dhawan hit 'Swarg' — though that film swapped Kimi for Juhi Chawla.
