• Shabana Azmi and Amol Palekar first worked together in 'Jeena Yahan' (1979) because director Basu Chatterjee wanted a pair that looked like real middle-class neighbors, not glamorous stars. He cast them after seeing them at a mutual friend's party where they argued about a book.
• In 'Apne Paraye' (1980), Palekar deliberately slowed down his usual fast, nervous delivery to match Azmi's measured, grounded pauses. She later said he 'gave her the silence to breathe' in scenes where other co-stars would rush over her lines.
• During the shoot of 'Pyaasi Aankhen' (1983), Azmi and Palekar would rehearse their scenes in a parked car outside the set because the director wanted them to sound like they were whispering secrets. They kept that habit for all their later films together.
