Jail(2009)
'Jail' is a 2009 Indian Hindi-language prison drama film directed by Madhur Bhandarkar. The film stars Neil Nitin Mukesh as Parag Manohar Dixit, a corporate executive wrongfully imprisoned for drug trafficking. Mugdha Godse plays his girlfriend Manasi, and Manoj Bajpayee appears as Nawab, a life-term convict who mentors Parag inside prison. The story follows Parag's arrest, his two-year struggle inside an overcrowded Mumbai jail, and his fight to prove his innocence while the system works against him. The film is notable for its realistic portrayal of India's prison conditions, including corruption, overcrowding, and the slow judicial process. Bhandarkar researched real prisons and interviewed former inmates to create an authentic atmosphere. The film received mixed reviews but was praised for Neil Nitin Mukesh's performance and the claustrophobic prison set designed by Nitin Desai. 'Jail' was released on November 6, 2009, and grossed approximately ₹8.5 crore worldwide.
