Devdas(2002)
Devdas is a 2002 Indian Hindi-language period romantic drama film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It stars Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Madhuri Dixit in lead roles. Based on the 1917 Bengali novel by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, the film follows Devdas Mukherjee, a wealthy law graduate who returns from London to marry his childhood friend Paro. His family's rejection of the match leads him to alcoholism and a tragic end. The film was noted for its opulent sets, elaborate costumes, and classical music. It was the most expensive Indian film ever made at the time, with a budget of ₹500 million. Devdas won five National Film Awards and eleven Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress. It was India's official submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language. The film was screened out of competition at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival. It was released worldwide on 12 July 2002.

Storyline
Devdas Mukherjee returns from London after ten years to reunite with his childhood love, Paro. But his wealthy family rejects her because of her lower social status. Unable to fight for her, Devdas sinks into alcoholism. He finds refuge with the courtesan Chandramukhi, but his love for Paro never fades. His self-destruction leads to a tragic end.
