Trivia

  • The film's title 'Dushman' means 'enemy', but the story focuses more on family separation and reunion than a traditional villain.
  • Director Shakti Samanta was better known for romantic films and musicals, making this intense drama a slight departure from his usual style.
  • This was one of the few films where actress Mandakini, famous for her role in 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili', played a leading romantic part.
  • The movie was filmed in the late 1980s but faced delays, finally releasing in 1990, which affected its promotional schedule.
  • Composer Bappi Lahiri, known for upbeat disco songs, created the film's music, including the melancholic track 'Tujhe Pyar Karte Karte'.
  • Actor Mithun Chakraborty was at the peak of his 'disco dancer' fame, yet this role required a more serious and dramatic performance from him.
  • The film's plot of a family torn apart by false legal cases mirrored a common theme in popular Hindi cinema of the 1980s.
