→Trivia
- The film's title 'Gundaraj' was inspired by a popular phrase in 1990s India meaning 'rule of the goons'.
- Actor Mithun Chakraborty, who plays the villain, was a major star but this was one of his many 'gangster' roles from that era.
- The movie was released during a wave of similar revenge-themed action films following the success of movies like 'Baazigar'.
- Director Guddu Dhanoa frequently collaborated with actor Sunil Shetty, but this film features Shetty in a supporting role.
- Parts of the film were shot in Mauritius, a common exotic location for Bollywood films in the mid-90s.
- The soundtrack by music director Anand-Milind included a hit romantic song 'Tumse Milne Ko Dil Karta Hai'.
- The plot of a man wrongly imprisoned seeking revenge was a common template in 1990s commercial Hindi cinema.
