Trivia

  • This was the only film where Anil Kapoor and Sridevi played a romantic couple after their marriage in real life.
  • The film's music was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal, but it was one of their less successful soundtracks commercially.
  • Shammi Kapoor, who played Heer's father, was a major star in the 1960s known for his energetic dancing, contrasting with his stern role here.
  • Director Harmesh Malhotra was primarily known for directing family dramas and this was his take on the classic Punjabi folklore.
  • The movie released during a period when big-budget romance films were struggling at the box office, and it was not a major hit.
  • Anupam Kher played the villain Kaheda, a role type he took on occasionally despite being better known for comic or dramatic parts.
  • The story of Heer Ranjha has been filmed many times in Indian cinema, but this 1992 version is one of the few major Hindi adaptations from that decade.
