Trivia
- The film was inspired by the 1959 Hollywood movie 'Compulsion', which was itself based on the real-life Leopold and Loeb murder case.
- It was the only film directed by Ashok Gaekwad, who was primarily known as a cinematographer for movies like 'Maine Pyar Kiya'.
- Actor Mithun Chakraborty, who played the honest brother, was at the peak of his 'disco dancer' fame but took on this serious dramatic role.
- The movie's title 'Sarphira' translates to 'reckless' or 'madcap', directly describing the troubled younger son's character.
- Despite its dramatic courtroom scenes, the film was not a major commercial success upon its release.
- The soundtrack, composed by Bappi Lahiri, included a popular qawwali song 'Allah Hi Allah' performed by Aziz Nazan.
- The plot revolves around a judge trying his own son, a rare legal and ethical dilemma explored in Hindi cinema at the time.
