Trivia
- The film's title 'Maattrraan' means 'twins' in Tamil, but it was also the name of a popular Tamil magazine in the 1980s.
- Suriya performed many stunts without a body double, including a complex fight scene on a moving train.
- The conjoined twin effect required Suriya to act opposite a stand-in and took over a year of post-production work.
- The movie was partly shot in Russia, including scenes at the Moscow State University and Red Square.
- Composer Harris Jayaraj reused a musical theme from his earlier film 'Ayan' for a key sequence in 'Maattrraan'.
- The film's plot about a genetic experiment was inspired by real debates over performance-enhancing supplements.
- Despite high expectations, the movie received mixed reviews and was not a major box office success.
