Mella Pesungal (transl. Speak Quietly) is a 1983 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film directed by the duo Bharathi–Vasu. It stars S. N. Vasanth and Bhanupriya in their debut roles. The story follows Prabhu, a young man who falls in love with Uma, a school teacher. Their relationship faces collapse when a shameful incident from Prabhu's family past resurfaces. The film explores themes of love, family duty, and the destructive power of village gossip. Ilaiyaraaja composed the soundtrack, featuring songs like 'Sevvanthi Pookalil'. The film was released on 24 June 1983. Critics praised Bhanupriya's performance and Ilaiyaraaja's music but criticized the climax. The film was a commercial failure, attributed by the directors to poor publicity.
