Bairavi is a 1978 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by M. Bhaskar and produced by Kalaignanam, who also wrote the story and dialogues. The film stars Rajinikanth as Mookaiyah, a loyal servant, with Srikanth playing the antagonist Rajalingam, and Geetha in her debut as the title character Bairavi. Set in a rural Tamil village, the story follows Mookaiyah's blind obedience to his cruel landlord, which leads to the kidnapping and rape of his own long-lost sister. The film explores themes of class oppression, revenge, and the cost of misplaced loyalty. Bairavi is notable for being the first film to feature Rajinikanth as a solo lead hero and for coining the title 'Superstar' for him. It was released on 8 June 1978 and became a commercial success, running for over 100 days in theaters.
