Thanga Gopuram is a 1971 Indian Tamil-language drama film produced, written, and directed by M. S. Solaimalai. The film stars Jaishankar and Jayalalithaa in lead roles, with Major Sundarrajan, V. K. Ramasamy, Vennira Aadai Nirmala, and Manorama in supporting roles. The story follows Durai, a poor labourer, who vows to protect his younger sister Seetha after their mother's death. He faces a moral crisis when a wealthy moneylender schemes to force Seetha into marriage. The film is notable for Jayalalithaa's award-winning performance, which earned her the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress. It was released on 12 August 1971 and received critical acclaim and commercial success.

Storyline
Durai promises his dying mother he will protect his sister Seetha. When a cruel moneylender tries to force Seetha into marriage, Durai considers stealing the temple's golden gopuram to raise money. His sister's love and honesty make him rethink his choices.
