Partnership facts

• Their first film together, Nootrukku Nooru (1971), was a remake of a Hindi hit. Jaishankar was already a star, but Srividya was relatively new. He personally recommended her to the director after seeing her in a small role — that one recommendation launched their on-screen partnership.
• In Thanikattu Raja (1982), Jaishankar played a rugged, silent type while Srividya did most of the emotional heavy lifting. She later said in an interview that he deliberately held back his dialogue delivery in their scenes together, giving her space to own the frame — a quiet generosity that made their fights and reconciliations feel real.
• On the sets of Anbukkor Annan (1971), Srividya was going through a rough personal phase. Jaishankar made it a point to drive her home after every night shoot, even when his own schedule was packed. They never spoke about it publicly, but crew members from that film remember it as the start of a lifelong mutual respect.
• Their 1990 film Amma Pillai was a disaster at the box office, but it directly led to a trend: after seeing how poorly the mother-son sentiment was handled, director K. S. Ravikumar decided to make his own version of that story. That became the blockbuster Pasamalar (1995) — which launched a whole new wave of family dramas in the mid-90s.
• Srividya once told a magazine: 'Jaishankar never treated me like a co-star. He treated me like a younger sister who needed protection. That's why every scene with him felt safe.' She said this in a 1992 interview, right after wrapping Nee Pathi Naan Pathi.
• After their last film together in 1997, they didn't meet for years. But when Jaishankar was hospitalized in 2000, Srividya was the first actor to visit him — not for photos, not for press. She sat with him for two hours while he was in the ICU. No one knew about it until a nurse mentioned it years later.
