
Kaanal Neer(1961)
Kaanal Neer is a 1961 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by P.S. Ramakrishna Rao. The lead cast includes Bhanumathi Ramakrishna as Madhavi, Akkineni Nageswara Rao as Suren, Sowcar Janaki as Shanti, and Devika as Manorama. The story follows Madhavi, a devoted daughter who sacrifices her own happiness to rescue her family from poverty after her father loses his wealth. She marries a wealthy man to pay off debts and arrange her siblings' marriages, but her family abandons her once they no longer need her. The film is an adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's work and was simultaneously made in Telugu as Batasari. It was praised for Bhanumathi's emotional performance and its critique of familial ingratitude.

Storyline
