Bhanumathi (P. Bhanumathi, also known as Bhanumathi Ramakrishnan) was a multifaceted Indian actress, singer, film producer, director, and music composer who worked primarily in Telugu and Tamil cinema across a career spanning over 100 films. Her Tamil film Annai (1962) earned the Certificate of Merit for Second Best Feature Film at the 10th National Film Awards, and she won the Film Fans Association Award for Best Actress for her role in it. Beyond acting, she was one of the rare women in Indian cinema to produce, direct, and compose music for her own films, debuting as a director with Chakrapani (1954). In her later years she took on character and grandmother roles, notably in the popular Tamil teen romance Chembaruthi (1992), and was posthumously recognized as a pioneering figure in South Indian cinema upon her death in December 2005.
