The story is set in the fictional city of Dharampura, which is terrorized by the gangster Kali Prasad. Laxmi decides to fight against Kali after she is publicly humiliated. The film is a remake of the 1985 Telugu film Pratighatana. It was made on a low budget and became a commercial success, earning Rs. 8 crore at the box office. The film is known for its raw portrayal of the politician-criminal nexus and its strong feminist message. It was released on March 17, 1987, in India.

Storyline

A college lecturer in a corrupt city decides to fight back after being publicly humiliated by a powerful gangster. When the law fails to protect her, she takes matters into her own hands. She will stop at nothing to avenge her honor and free her city from terror.
