Full Plot

Tamizh is a visually impaired young man who works as a singer in a wedding entertainment troupe in Chennai. During one wedding, he meets Sudhanthirakodi, a blind woman studying to become a teacher. Tamizh teases her playfully, but she gets annoyed and leaves him waiting. The next day, Tamizh bumps into Kodi on a train. He asks his friend to mislead her, causing her to get off at the wrong station. This makes Kodi late for her first day of teaching practice. She is furious and wants revenge.

Tamizh later talks loudly to his friend about the prank, not knowing Kodi is sitting right in front of him. Kodi hears everything and hits him with her walking stick, making him bleed. Tamizh is embarrassed and angry when his friends tease him. But Kodi feels guilty and apologizes the next time they meet. Their friendship grows, and Tamizh falls in love with her. With help from his friends, he composes a romantic poem and records it on a CD. He slips the CD into her bag at her school.

Tamizh then learns from Kodi's best friend that Kodi dreams of marrying a sighted man. She has a crush on Vinod, a volunteer who reads to her at a service center. On that same day, Vinod takes Kodi out for lunch. Kodi thinks he will propose, but he introduces his fiancée instead. He wants Kodi to be his fiancée's charity project. Kodi is heartbroken and humiliated. When she returns home, she finds Tamizh's CD and is deeply touched by his poem.

Tamizh goes through great trouble to find a special clock for Kodi. The clock has an alarm that plays her late father's voice recording. This gift makes Kodi realize how much Tamizh loves her. She finally learns to love him back. However, her greedy elder brother has already promised to marry her off to his friend in exchange for a favor. Kodi and Tamizh decide to elope.

Tamizh manages to collect enough money to pay off Kodi's brother. But a group of corrupt policemen trick him and steal the money. A van hits Tamizh, and he is seriously injured. Unknown to him, Kodi is also in that same van, on her way to meet him. Neither of them speaks during the ride, so they do not realize the other is there. After Tamizh recovers, he finds that Kodi has left Chennai to escape her brother. A reporter friend tells him Kodi was seen in Mumbai. Tamizh travels to Mumbai and finally finds her. Disability as normal life

How does it end?

Ending Explained

The ending of 'Cuckoo' is both painful and hopeful. After Tamizh is hit by a van, he wakes up in the hospital alone. He does not know that Kodi was in the same van. She was on her way to meet him, but neither spoke during the journey. Kodi's brother forces her to leave Chennai to keep them apart. Tamizh recovers and searches for her everywhere. A reporter friend finally tells him that Kodi was seen in Mumbai. Tamizh does not hesitate. He travels to the big city and searches until he finds her. When they finally meet, they hold each other and cry. The director leaves the audience with a powerful message: love that is true will always find a way.
