Deepavali Full Story Explained (2007)

Billu is the son of Mudaliar, a respected leader in the Royapuram neighborhood of Chennai. Everyone in the locality loves Mudaliar and treats Billu like their own son. Billu is a happy young man who enjoys life with his friends. One day, he sees Susi at a railway station and falls in love with her instantly. Susi has just arrived from Bangalore to stay with Settu, a man who used to work for her father Chidambaram. Settu has changed his ways but still respects Chidambaram, who is a dangerous criminal. Susi has never felt real love or care in her life. She is deeply impressed by the warmth and bonding she sees among the people of Royapuram. A godman predicts that Susi is the one for Billu, which shocks her because she fears her father's reaction. She tries to hide her feelings but cannot. She enjoys spending time with Billu and his friends. But then something unexpected happens. Susi meets an old friend named Revathi at a restaurant. She acts strangely and denies knowing her, even though Revathi tries to talk to her. Revathi feels insulted and walks away. Susi becomes very emotional and leaves quickly. Later, she reveals the truth to Billu. She suffers from PTSD after a serious accident. She has forgotten everything that happened in a span of three years. Billu takes her to Dr. Devasaghayam, who says the condition can be cured. But when Susi gets cured, she will not remember anything that happened in Chennai, including Billu. This breaks Susi's heart. She makes Billu promise never to leave her, no matter what. Billu promises he will never leave her. Billu talks to Chidambaram, which makes the criminal very angry. Chidambaram comes to Chennai with his goons. He plans to take Susi back to Bangalore. The residents of Royapuram stand up against Chidambaram. To avoid trouble, Chidambaram agrees to an engagement between Billu and Susi. But he tricks Billu and beats him up at a faraway place. Susi is helpless and goes with her father to Bangalore. Billu follows her to her home. When he meets Susi, he is shocked. She has been cured and does not recognize him at all. But Billu remembers his promise. He tries everything to convince her. He even brings her back to Royapuram, even though she resists. Chidambaram comes with his men and a fight breaks out. Billu is heartbroken as Chidambaram drags Susi away. But then Susi sees how Billu and the Royapuram residents treat her with so much love. She leaves her father's hand and runs to Billu. Billu thinks she has regained her memory. But Susi says she still does not remember anything. She just believes everything Billu tells her about their life together. They finally reunite.
