The story is set in the caste-divided village of Paruthiyur near Madurai, where a reckless young man from a mixed-caste background falls in love with his upper-caste cousin, leading to a violent clash with family and society. The film is noted for its raw depiction of rural life, brutal violence, and tragic ending. Priyamani won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance as a gang rape victim. Storyline
Paruthiveeran is a wild young man from a low-caste family in a village near Madurai. He falls in love with his upper-caste cousin Muththazhagu. But her father hates Paruthiveeran because of his caste. When they try to elope, a brutal attack changes everything. Their love leads to a tragic end.
