Vegam is a 2007 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by K. R. Udhayashankar. The film stars Ashwin Shekhar as the lead, with Veda, Prabhu, and Khushbu Sundar in supporting roles. The story follows Ashwin, an event management company owner, who travels to Malaysia to meet his girlfriend. He accidentally overhears a phone call from a kidnapped woman named Selvi, who is crying for help. A former police officer named Sriman has taken Selvi and her son hostage, demanding a mysterious tape. Ashwin decides to rescue them despite having no training or backup. The film is an unofficial remake of a Hollywood thriller. It was produced by S.V. Shekher and Uma Maheswari under the banner Commercial Creations. Vegam was released on September 28, 2007, in theaters across India.
