Moondram Pirai is a 1982 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film written, directed, and filmed by Balu Mahendra. The film stars Kamal Haasan and Sridevi in lead roles, with Y. G. Mahendran, Silk Smitha, and Poornam Viswanathan in supporting roles. The story follows a school teacher who rescues a woman with retrograde amnesia from a brothel and protects her in his hill station home. The film explores themes of memory, innocence, and selfless love. It was a critical and commercial success, running for over a year in theatres. The film won two National Film Awards: Best Actor for Kamal Haasan and Best Cinematography for Balu Mahendra. The music was composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The film was released on 19 February 1982.
