The film is based on the 1999 murder of model Jessica Lal, who was shot by a politician's son after refusing to serve him alcohol. It follows Sabrina's decade-long fight for justice and Meera's media campaign that mobilizes public opinion. The film received critical acclaim for its screenplay and performances, particularly Mukerji's portrayal of the foul-mouthed reporter. It was a commercial success, grossing over ₹45 crore on a ₹9 crore budget. Rani Mukerji won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role. Storyline
Sabrina Lal's sister Jessica is shot dead by a politician's son. The killer walks free because witnesses are bribed and evidence is destroyed. Sabrina fights for years but loses hope. Then journalist Meera Gaity takes up the case. She uses the media to expose the cover-up and rally public support. Can they force the system to deliver justice?
