Peepli Live is a 2010 Indian satirical black comedy film in Hindi directed by Anusha Rizvi. It stars Omkar Das Manikpuri as Natha, Raghubir Yadav as Budhia, and Malaika Shenoy as Nandita. The story is set in the fictional village of Peepli in rural India. It follows a poor farmer named Natha who is pushed toward suicide by his family, the media, and politicians after a local politician suggests that a farmer's death could lead to a government loan waiver. The film sharply criticizes the sensationalism of Indian news media and the exploitation of farmer suicides for political gain. Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, the film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration. Storyline
Natha is a poor farmer in the village of Peepli. He is about to lose his land because he cannot repay a small loan. His brother Budhia tells him that if he commits suicide, the government will waive the debt. The news spreads, and soon the media and politicians turn Natha's tragedy into a circus. Natha must decide if he will die to save his family or live and lose everything.
