Antony Charles is a Tamil film director and writer, trained in screenplay and direction at the Film and Television Institute of Tamilnadu (FITI), who built his career directing daily soap operas for Vijay TV before transitioning to feature films. His debut feature Nanjupuram (2011), starring Raaghav and Monica, used venomous snakes as a metaphor for caste discrimination in a rural village and earned an IMDB rating of 7.1 with praise from The New Indian Express for exceeding expectations on a small budget. His children's drama Azhagu Kutti Chellam (2016), featuring child actors Krisha Kurup and Ken Karunas, employed a multi-strand narrative and won the Best Social Awareness Award at the Norway Tamil Film Festival. His third film Saalai (2017), a psychological thriller shot over 45 continuous days in the snowfields of Kashmir, saw Charles also serve as story writer, screenwriter, dialogue writer, and lyricist.
