G. N. R. Kumaravelan is a Tamil film director and writer, son of veteran director G. N. Rangarajan who collaborated frequently with Kamal Haasan, and is known primarily for directing drama, mystery, and coming-of-age films in Tamil cinema. He made his directorial debut with Ninaithale Inikkum (2009), a Tamil remake of the 2006 Malayalam hit Classmates, followed by Yuvan Yuvathi (2011) and Haridas (2013), the last of which earned him a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Tamil Director. Before directing, he trained as a first assistant director under Balu Mahendra on Sathi Leelavathi (1995), a position facilitated by Kamal Haasan, and also assisted Kamal Haasan on the shelved projects Ladies Only and the historical epic Marudhanayagam. He continued directing with Wagah (2016) and Sinam (2022), demonstrating a sustained career spanning over a decade in Tamil cinema.
