Kanmani is an Indian film director who has worked primarily in Tamil and Telugu cinema, known for helming bilingual commercial entertainers and genre films. He debuted with the Tamil romantic comedy Aahaa Ethanai Azhagu (2003) and found success with the Telugu films Naa Oopiri (2005) and Chinnodu (2006), the latter being dubbed in Hindi as Ek Aur Ilzaam. He trained as a chorus singer under composer Ilaiyaraaja for twelve years and apprenticed under director Saran before turning director, bringing a blend of music-sensibility and genre-mixing to films like the horror-comedy Peigal Jaakkirathai (2016) and the Telugu social drama Desamudurs (2018). His 2015 Telugu film Beeruva further demonstrated his range across regional industries.
