Biography
Sasi Shankar (also spelled Sasi Shanker, 1957–2016) was a Malayalam and Tamil film director primarily known for his work in Malayalam cinema, with two Tamil directorial ventures. He won the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues in 1993 for his debut film Naaraayam. His Tamil debut Perazhagan (2004), starring Suriya and Jyothika in dual roles, was a remake of his own 2002 Malayalam film Kunjikoonan, which was adapted from Benny P. Nayarambalam's play Vikalanga Varsham. He passed away on 10 August 2016 at his home in Kerala, having directed a total of 12 films across Malayalam and Tamil cinema.
