Biography

Surya Prakash was an Indian film director who worked primarily in Tamil cinema, making his directorial debut with Manikkam (1996) starring Rajkiran. His breakthrough film Maayi (2000), produced by R. B. Choudary under Super Good Films and starring R. Sarathkumar and Meena, was a commercial hit that spawned Telugu and Kannada remakes (Simharasi and Narasimha respectively). His directorial style leaned toward action-dramas set in village backdrops, with Maayi featuring a notable 80-foot stunt by Sarathkumar filmed on a 25-acre set in Udumalaipettai. He passed away on 27 May 2024 following a heart attack, with his final released film being the low-budget action comedy Adhibar (2015).
