His film about the fisherman community, Gangaputrulu, won him Nandi Awards for Best Director and Best Dialogue Writer, and his children's film Hero also won three Nandi Awards — among a total of 18 State Awards across his filmography. He is known for socially conscious storytelling, with films like Valasa (2021) addressing migrant workers and Gangaputrulu focusing on marginalized communities, alongside crime-comedy genre entries like Oka Romantic Crime Katha (2012) and Romantic Criminals (2019).
