Interval Block
Also called: interval bang, interval point
The interval block is the sequence of scenes leading up to the mid-film intermission in Indian cinema, engineered to deliver the film's biggest first-half twist or set piece in the final minutes before the break. Because Indian theatrical exhibition retains the mandatory interval, screenwriters structure their second-act pivot around it. A strong interval block sends the audience back from the lobby committed to the second half. The convention is so embedded that streaming releases often retain a perceptible interval beat even without a literal pause.
