• Kovai Sarala was already a comedy star when Kushboo was the reigning queen of Tamil cinema. They first shared screen space in My Dear Marthandan (1990) because the director wanted a female comedian who could match Kushboo's energy — and Sarala was the only one who didn't get intimidated by her.
• In Gopala Gopala (1996), Kushboo played the straight-laced wife while Sarala played the loud, nosy neighbour. Sarala would deliberately go off-script with improvised one-liners, and Kushboo would break character laughing — the director kept those takes because the laughter felt real.
• Kushboo once said in an interview that Sarala was the only co-star who would bring her homemade snacks to set. They'd share food between shots, and Sarala would crack jokes to keep Kushboo's mood light during long night shoots.
• Their pairing in Viralukketha Veekkam (1999) was so popular that the film's comedy track — where Sarala's character keeps mistaking Kushboo's husband for her own — became a template for later Tamil comedy films like Kalavani (2010) and Oru Kal Oru Kannadi (2012).
• Kushboo once told a Tamil magazine: 'Sarala is the only person who can make me laugh even when I'm angry. On the sets of Unnai Kann Theduthey (2000), I was upset about a scene, and she just walked up and did a silly dance. I forgot why I was angry.'
• After Aranmanai 2 (2016), they didn't work together again. But Sarala still calls Kushboo 'Kushboo akka' (elder sister) in public, and Kushboo has said she'd greenlight any project if Sarala is attached as the comedian.
