Partnership facts

• Jagdeep was the one who brought Pran into 'Khoon Ka Rishta' (1981). The director wanted a younger actor for the role, but Jagdeep insisted only Pran had the gravitas to play his on-screen father. He personally convinced the producer to double the budget for Pran's fee.
• On the sets of 'Nigahen: Nagina Part II' (1989), Pran would deliberately flub his lines in the first take just to make Jagdeep laugh. Jagdeep, a natural comedian, would then improvise a retort that often made it into the final cut. The director let them do this because the spontaneous banter felt more real.
• Pran and Jagdeep shared a ritual before every scene together: they would touch each other's feet before 'Action' was called. Pran insisted on it because Jagdeep was a decade younger, but Jagdeep said it was his way of showing respect to a legend. The crew called it 'the blessing shot'.
• Jagdeep once said in a 1995 interview: 'Pran sahab never treated me like a sidekick. He would say, "You are the hero of this scene, I am just the shadow." That is why I never felt small next to him.'
• Their only comedy together, 'Hum Hain Bemisaal' (1994), was the last film where Pran played a father figure to a lead actor. After this, Pran retired from playing on-screen dads. Jagdeep later said that film closed a chapter for both of them.
