• Neeraj Pandey cast Anupam Kher in A Wednesday! (2008) after seeing him in a play. Kher was the first actor Pandey approached for the role of the common man — and he said yes without even reading the full script.
• On the set of Special 26 (2013), Kher would deliberately mess up his lines in the first take to make Akshay Kumar laugh. Pandey kept those takes because the laughter felt real for the con-man scenes.
