• Irrfan was Vishal's first choice for Maqbool, but the actor almost said no — he thought playing a Macbeth-inspired gangster was too big a leap from his TV roles. Vishal convinced him over chai at a South Delhi dhaba, telling him, 'You're not playing a character, you're playing a man who loses his soul.'
• On the set of Maqbool, Vishal realized Irrfan couldn't do 'loud' — so he rewrote the murder scenes to be whispered. Irrfan's quiet intensity made the violence feel more chilling, and Vishal later said he learned to trust stillness over shouting because of that film.
