• In 'Lovers' (1983), Beena Banerjee and Rakesh Bedi were cast as a couple by director Rajat Rakshit after he saw them both in a stage play together. Rakshit later said he cast them because they already had a 'lived-in rhythm' that no audition could match.
• On the set of 'Meri Zabaan' (1989), Bedi would deliberately flub his lines in the first take to make Banerjee laugh — and she'd retaliate by improvising a completely new dialogue in the next take. The director kept the best of these ad-libs in the final cut.
• During the shoot of 'Naaka Bandi' (1990), Banerjee and Bedi shared a tiny makeup van. They developed a ritual: before every scene, they'd clink their tea cups and say 'chai peeke dekho' — a line from their first film together. The crew thought it was just a joke, but they did it every single day.
• Rakesh Bedi once told a film magazine: 'Beena and I never rehearsed. We just looked at each other and knew what the other was going to do. It was like we had a secret language.'
• Their comic timing in 'Lovers' (1983) was so sharp that the film's producer, Pramod Chakravorty, cast them together again in a guest appearance for his next project — a rare move, since he usually never repeated supporting pairs.
