• They first shared screen space in Jaani Dushman (1979), but the real spark came when Sanjeev Kumar personally requested Reena Roy for Ladies Tailor (1981). He had seen her comic timing in a previous film and told the director she was the only one who could match his deadpan delivery.
• In Haathkadi (1982), Sanjeev Kumar deliberately slowed down his dialogue pace in their scenes together. He told Reena on set that her natural energy was so fast that he needed to pull back to let the audience catch the tension between them. She later said he taught her how to use silence as a weapon.
• During the shoot of Do Waqt Ki Roti (1988), Sanjeev Kumar was already in failing health. Reena Roy would bring him homemade soup to the set every day. He never thanked her out loud, but the director noticed he started arriving earlier on days she was scheduled.
• Reena Roy once said in a 1990 interview: 'Sanjeev ji didn't treat me like a heroine. He treated me like a co-actor. That's rare. He'd say, 'You lead this scene, I'll follow.' No other hero did that.'
• Their pairing in Ladies Tailor (1981) directly inspired a wave of 'middle-class couple comedies' in the early 80s. Producers started casting older heroes with younger heroines specifically for domestic comedy roles, copying the dynamic Sanjeev and Reena had established.
