• Sivaji Ganesan personally requested Santhana Bharathi to direct him in 'Needhiyin Nizhal' (1985) after seeing his work as an assistant. Bharathi was just 30 and had never directed a star of that stature. Sivaji told him, 'I trust your craft, don't worry about my image.'
• On the sets of 'En Tamil En Makkal' (1988), Sivaji would deliberately flub a line in the first take to make Santhana Bharathi relax. He told the crew, 'Let the young director correct me — it gives him confidence.' Bharathi later said that gesture broke the ice for the rest of the shoot.
• Santhana Bharathi and Sivaji never had a formal contract for any of their three films. They shook hands on the story narration, and Sivaji would ask for the script on loose sheets — no bound copies. Bharathi still keeps those handwritten notes in a steel trunk.
