• Kalaiyarasan was a theatre actor with zero film experience when director Pa. Ranjith cast him in Attakathi (2012). Hari Krishnan, the film's composer, was also making his debut. They were both unknowns taking a leap together — and that film put both on the map.
• In Attakathi, Hari Krishnan's raw folk-electronic score matched Kalaiyarasan's untrained, naturalistic performance. Neither was polished — and that roughness became the film's signature. Hari later said he composed the songs while watching Kalaiyarasan's face in the edit.
• After Attakathi, Kalaiyarasan and Hari Krishnan stayed close. When Kalaiyarasan got a small role in Kabali (2016), he pushed for Hari to be part of the music team. Hari ended up co-composing two tracks for the film — including the fan-favourite 'Vaanam Paarthen'.
• Hari Krishnan once said in an interview: 'Kalaiyarasan is the reason I got into Kabali. He told Ranjith sir about my work. That trust means everything.'
• Their collaboration on Attakathi directly launched the 'new wave' of independent Tamil folk-music in indie films. Hari's song 'Ayyayyo' became a template for many later debut composers — and Kalaiyarasan's raw acting style inspired a generation of non-glamourous male leads.
