Partnership facts

• M. Muthaiah was a stunt choreographer before he turned director. He cast Namo Narayana as the lead in Kutti Puli (2013) because he needed an actor who could do his own action sequences without a body double. Namo had a background in martial arts, so Muthaiah didn't have to cut around the fights.
• On the set of Komban (2015), Muthaiah would block the action scenes first, then let Namo Narayana improvise the dialogue during the emotional beats. Namo would often rewrite his lines the night before, and Muthaiah would shoot both versions — then pick Namo's take in the edit.
• Their third film Marudhu (2016) directly launched the career of actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. She played the female lead opposite Namo, and the film's rural action template became her breakout. She later credited Muthaiah for giving her the role that changed her trajectory.
• Namo Narayana and Muthaiah had a standing ritual before every film's first day of shoot: they would visit the same small temple in Tenkasi district together. They did this for all four films, without fail, even when schedules were tight.
