• Kamal Haasan personally requested Silk Smitha for Moondram Pirai (1982). He had seen her item numbers and felt her raw energy would balance his intense, quiet performance. The director Balu Mahendra agreed only after Kamal insisted.
• On the sets of Sakalakala Vallavan (1982), Kamal would rehearse comedy scenes with Silk for hours before the shoot. He taught her how to time her reactions to his punchlines. She later said he made her feel like a real actress, not just a dancer.
• Their pairing in Moondram Pirai directly inspired the Hindi remake Sadma (1983). Kamal reprised his role, but Silk was replaced by Sridevi. The original Tamil version's success proved that a mainstream hero could share screen space with an item dancer in a serious role — and it worked.

• Silk Smitha once told a magazine: 'Kamal sir treated me like a co-star, not a side act. He never made me feel small. That’s rare in this industry.' She said this in a 1984 interview with Kumudam.
