• Director M. Karnan cast Rajkokila as the lead in Ganga (1972) after seeing her in a stage play — she had zero film experience. He bet the entire film on a newcomer.
• On the set of Jakkamma (1972), Karnan realized Rajkokila couldn't cry on cue. So he personally narrated her character's backstory for 20 minutes before every emotional scene — she cried every single time, no glycerin needed.
• Karnan and Rajkokila had a standing ritual: before the first shot of every film, they'd share a cup of filter coffee from the same tumbler. They did this for all five films, including Jambu (1980).
• Enga Pattan Sothu (1975) was the first Tamil film to feature a female-led comedy track that ran through the entire second half. Rajkokila improvised most of her lines, and Karnan kept the camera rolling. Local comedians later cited this film as their inspiration.
• Rajkokila once said in a 1981 interview: 'Karnan sir didn't just direct me — he taught me where to breathe in a dialogue. Without him, I'd still be faking it.'
• In Ore Thandhai (1976), Karnan deliberately shot all of Rajkokila's close-ups in single takes — no retakes allowed. He said it kept her 'raw and unpredictable.' She later admitted it terrified her but gave her best performance.
