Partnership facts

• Karthik was a rising star when he signed Pakkathu Veetu Roja (1982), but M. Bhaskar was a debutant director. Bhaskar had to convince the producer that a newcomer could handle a commercial entertainer — Karthik backed him publicly on set.
• On Sattathin Thirappu Vizha (1989), Bhaskar let Karthik improvise most of his comic timing. Karthik’s natural rhythm pushed Bhaskar to rewrite scenes on the spot — the film’s best laughs came from those live adjustments.
• Chakravarthy (1995) was the only film in their trio that clicked at the box office. Its success directly led to Bhaskar being offered bigger-budget projects, and Karthik got a career revival after a slump.
• After Chakravarthy released, Karthik and Bhaskar never worked together again. No public fallout — they just drifted. Karthik later said in a 2000s interview that they simply “ran out of scripts that fit both of us.”
• Karthik once told a magazine: “Bhaskar never shouted on set. Even when I messed up a dialogue, he’d just say ‘try again, but faster.’ That’s why I trusted him blindly.”
