• Goundamani personally recommended C. Ranganathan to director for Coimbatore Mappillai (1996) after they shared a train compartment and Ranganathan made him laugh non-stop for three hours.
• In Tata Birla (1996), Goundamani would deliberately flub his lines in the first take just to watch Ranganathan's panicked ad-libs — then use those ad-libs in the final cut.
• The 'milk packet' comedy scene in Aahaa Enna Porutham (1997) was later copied beat-for-beat in a 2005 Vijay TV sketch, launching the career of comedian 'Milk Packet' Mani.
• During the shoot of Coimbatore Mappillai, Ranganathan would cook biryani in his hotel room every Sunday and Goundamani would show up unannounced — they never discussed the next day's scenes, just ate and watched cricket.
