C. Ranganathan is a Tamil film director, actor, and screenwriter who began his career as an actor with a lead role in Oyilattam (1991), directed by R. Sundarrajan, before transitioning to filmmaking as an assistant director under Sundarrajan and S. A. Chandrasekhar. He made his directorial debut with Coimbatore Mappillai (1996), a Tamil romantic comedy starring Vijay and Sanghavi with music by Vidyasagar, released during Pongal. He followed this with Tata Birla (1996) and Aahaa Enna Porutham (1997), all three being commercially profitable ventures. As film opportunities waned, he moved to television, directing serials such as Vandhana Thandhana (2007) on Kalaignar TV and Comedy Colony (2009–2010) on Jaya TV.
