• Simran was already a star when she signed Kondattam (1998), but K. S. Ravikumar was still finding his footing as a director. She agreed to the film only after he narrated the entire script to her in one sitting — no breaks, no phone calls. She later said that energy convinced her.
• On the sets of Natpukkaga (1998), Ravikumar realized Simran could switch between comedy and emotion in a single take. He started writing longer, uninterrupted shots for her — scenes where she had to cry and crack a joke within seconds. That became her signature in his films.
• Panchathanthiram (2002) was originally written for a different heroine. Ravikumar rewrote the entire female lead after Simran signed on — turning it into a layered, manipulative character that Tamil cinema hadn't seen before. That film later inspired a generation of dark-comedy heroines in the 2010s.
• After Bava Nachadu (2001) flopped hard, Ravikumar called Simran and apologized for the script. She told him, 'Don't worry, next one will be a classic.' That next one was Panchathanthiram. They never discussed the flop again.
• Simran once said in an interview: 'Ravikumar sir doesn't direct you. He traps you in a scene and watches you find your way out. That's why I always said yes to him.'
• For Andhagan (2024), their first film in 22 years, Ravikumar deliberately didn't rehearse with Simran. He wanted the rustiness and hesitation in their first scene together to feel real — two old collaborators rediscovering their rhythm on camera. The take made the final cut.
