• Ravikumar was a struggling assistant director when he wrote Putham Pudhu Payanam (1991) specifically for Nagesh. He walked into Nagesh's house with the script and waited three hours because the actor was napping. Nagesh read it in one go and said yes on the spot.
• On the sets of Avvai Shanmughi (1996), Ravikumar would let Nagesh improvise entire stretches of dialogue. Nagesh's comic timing was so sharp that Ravikumar often kept the first take — he said Nagesh's spontaneous lines were better than anything he could write.
• Ravikumar and Nagesh had a standing ritual: before every film's first day shoot, they'd share a cup of filter coffee at the same small shop near AVM Studios. They did this for all three films, even when schedules were tight.
• Panchathanthiram (2002) was the last film Nagesh acted in before his health declined. Ravikumar wrote the role of 'Kadambavana' specifically to give Nagesh a full-fledged comic lead — not a cameo — one last time. The film's success directly inspired a wave of multi-star comedy capers in Tamil cinema in the early 2000s.
