Naren, already a respected character actor, was the one who pushed for Karunakaran to get more screen time during the shoot — he told the director, 'This guy is a natural, give him a proper scene.'
• In every film they did together, Naren would deliberately flub a line in the first take to make Karunakaran laugh and loosen up. Karunakaran later admitted that Naren's 'deliberate mistakes' became their unspoken warm-up ritual — it broke the ice before every serious scene.
