• M. N. Nambiar personally recommended Manjula Vijayakumar for Idhaya Veenai (1972) after seeing her in a small role. The director was hesitant — she was too young — but Nambiar insisted she had the right intensity.
• In Ulagam Sutrum Valiban (1973), Nambiar played the villain while Manjula played the romantic lead. On set, Nambiar would deliberately dial up his menace in their scenes together — he told her it made her fear look more real, and her reactions sharper.
• During the shoot of Naalai Namadhe (1975), Manjula was recovering from a fever. Nambiar would bring her hot ginger tea between takes. She later said he treated her like a daughter on set — protective, but never patronizing.
