• Director S. A. Chandrasekhar paired them for the first time in Auto Raja (1982) because he needed a loud, street-smart comedian to bounce off Vijayakanth's raw action hero. Thengai Srinivasan was the only one who could match his energy without getting steamrolled.
• In Nooravathu Naal (1984), Thengai Srinivasan improvised an entire monologue about a missing lottery ticket while Vijayakanth stood silent. Vijayakanth later told the press he nearly broke character because Srinivasan's timing was so unpredictable — that scene became the film's most replayed moment.
• Nalla Naal (1984) was the first Tamil film where a comedian (Thengai Srinivasan) got equal billing with the hero in the opening credits. That decision by the producer directly inspired future double-hero comedies like Michael Madana Kama Rajan.
• Vijayakanth personally drove Thengai Srinivasan to the hospital when he fell ill during the shoot of Auto Raja. They stayed in touch until Srinivasan's death in 1988 — Vijayakanth was the only actor from their films who attended his funeral.
• Vijayakanth once said in a 1985 interview: 'Thengai made me look like a better actor. He'd throw a line at me, and I'd have to react for real — no rehearsal could prepare you for what he'd do.'
